I only have time for a quickie, as I am on the home stretch for the "Can I Sit With You?" cover art.

Summer came along for the day, and was a lot of fun. We listened to the last 90 minutes of Septimus Heap Book 3 together.

Thought: conventions would be a lot more pleasant with well-trained volunteers and expectations of a professional attitude.
Thought: conventions are ALWAYS more pleasant when guests have designated people to herd, grab water, and direct. At least they are for me, since I don't have to worry about finding where I'm supposed to go, or get exasperated when I ask for water and get an "Idunno?" or "the fountain?"
Thought: I give conventions slack, since they are not usually held in a GORGEOUS state capitol annex speaking rooms with speaker's chairs emblazoned with "STATE OF TEXAS*", mikes that can be easily switched on and off, and great media presentation facilities.

I killed the room when I thanked them for coming to see Terry Moore.

Terry Moore indentified himself as one of a silent majority who loved my work.
Squee!

I asked if he'd blurb my next book. He said yes!

SQUEE!

Matthew Sturges, Paul Benjamin and I went to the Barnes and Noble tent after to see our books displayed. Matthew is a very good sport, even he laughed at the one word "Intriguing..." blurb on the cover of Jack of Fables. I took pictures of our books to prove they were there.

When Paul, Summer and I were walking back towards Capitol parking, we met a mom and two girls who were looking for the food tent. They were very excited that we were Real! Live! Authors! with was Very! Fun! Paul write the older girl, Cait a short paragraph, and I did her a quick drawing of Raven from Rumble Girls (lucky for me, Summer ALWAYS carries paper). They went on their way, but before we could get much further, the mom came back with both girls, explaining the younger was disappointed that she'd not gotten a drawing and she (the mom) would be glad to pay or go buy a book right away.

Do you have ANY IDEA how hard it is to not be a filthy capitalist? I did a drawing of the younger girl, who was really in need of a bomb blanket and explosives team, judgning by the grin on her face, and encouraged the mom to purchase a book to support Texas libraries, which is what the TBF is all about.
Off they went.
It was so cool to know I had totally made someone's day. I so wanted to meet a cartoonist (especially a woman!) when I was a kid!

See you all on Wednesday when the cover's done!
