It's going to be a dorktastic evening, and we will be there in cosplay!
Summer and I are dressing up for the Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows book release party tomorrow. I will be going as Andromeda Tonks, Nymphadora Tonks' mum. Summer will be herself as a Gryffindor Hogwarts student. I already had all my foof to be Andromeda (I'm going for the "Tonks is a good influence" look, which I can put together from my closet).
We went to Goodwill, the church of cosplay, and found Sum a shirt, jumper, skirt and shoes. She looks really cute! Tomorrow, I will take a stab at the tie and adding bands to the jumper. May not happen.
Also bleaching and pinking-up my hair.
But what is a good cosplay without props? A not-finished cosplay, is what. King and I will have calling cards that read "Andromeda Tonks, Blood Traitor" and "Tom TED Tonks, Muggle-Born" to hand out.
Summer made us wands, and I made us spell books.
Summer's spell book and wand.
The wand is from a mesquite tree. Summer "sanded" it on the sidewalk, and stained it with cordovan Kiwi wax polish, then we embossed it.
I made the book from a thrift store book, sanded, grated and stained with coffee, alcohol ink, and acrylic paint.
The belt, also from a thrift, got the same abuse, and I attached the strap with GS Hypo Cement. The book still opens! Summer added red and gold intertwined dragons, and I embossed them.

Wand and spell book detail:

My spell book and wand. Summer spend two hours whittling and sanding mine on a tile back. My wand is embossed in gold, and has a gold tip. My book got the same treatment as her, plus I embossed "Andromeda" and some patterns on the front, then dirtied them up again. Both books and wands are beautiful in person.
The books look extremely well-loved.
