HURT COMICS: Slow Learner
Jan. 24th, 2007 09:00 pmI just realized today (which is why this is called "slow learner") that besides nothing changing much in comics as far as women go, NOTHING AT ALL has changed drama-wise.
I could pick up a Comics Buyer's Guide or TCJ from ten, fifteen, twenty years ago and the only thing different would be the names of the victims, cranks, curmudgeons, kids, scumbags, puzzingly hot, porny, creeps, sinners made saints, con artists.
And comics don't learn shit from that, so I have to. And that is: stop following drama. I mean, it's entertaining as shit, it really is. There's some breathtaking bitchy people out there, and I've been in their number, and could be again.
All you have to do to see how unimportant the drama is is to say, for instance "(name of hot writer who is also a jackass redacted)" to someone who's worked mostly web and hear people go, "Huh?"
Now, this means you get to be the first to dish on them, and some of them have amassed a truly impressive catalog of fuckery, the kind you can take hours telling and still only be up to 2001.
But, god, it doesn't matter if anyone knows this shit or not, unless you can tell it while you're working. It sure doesn't stop anyone from making a mistake. (Take it from someone who's heard the "But my careeeeerrrrr!" whine a thousand times, and whined that song herself--but I only did it once, well twice, in a row, I was on the rebound. Until the next two times I did it. Until the time I didn't clonk two people's heads together like coconuts and steal the wine.)
So, that's my brill revelation for the day. I kind of needed it, it's been a bitch of a week.
None of which means I'm still not willing to be like this if the situation calls for it:
Smiles, everyone! Puppies and kitties! Trust me when I tell you none of this is directed in the wrong places.
P.S.: Holy fucking shit, I cannot believe it's been three months since Girl took that picture.
