San Diego CCI: Oh My Goodness!
Oct. 9th, 2006 12:53 pmThis is awesome!
Out of twenty special guests announced, FIVE are women!
I'm sure the complete lack of women guests in the Update mailer last May, and the subsequent pointing out of same, had nothing to do with this. Absolutely sure.
I am totally impressed. Note the adjectives for emphasis. Now, as the guest list grows to its usual 40-something, to see ten women guests, keeping the ratio at 25%*, would be great.
They could add, say, a woman who's been a webcartoonist since 1995, a pro since 1985, worked in the field in the US and Japan, an activist, a patron of women webcomickers.
I have NO IDEA where such a person could be found, but you can tell Jackie Estrada (chair of the Comic-Con International guest committee) I'll be glad to do it, anyway. As Jackie said in email to me last May 2 "I will be happy to submit for discussion any names that I receive."

*I think the ratio of women to men in comics, lit, and pop media is MUCH higher, but it's a good start.
