MAKE COMICS: Lackadaisy
Aug. 12th, 2006 02:27 amTracy Butler is an artist whose work you'll see and go, "Why have I not heard of her? Hanh?"
(Scroll down past the pretty art, not at all representative of the punches to the face and mad pigs, for my squealing.)

I found Tracy on DeviantArt a while back, when her comic, Lackadaisy, was in production.
LACKADAISY!
Lackadaisy is 1920's-era comic about runrunners and speakeasies. With cats.
Wait! Come back! Butler doesn't use cats because she can't draw people. It's clear she understands body language and expression quite well. She uses the kinds of cats to add dimension to her characters. A fussy criminal is a tuxedo cat. A young con man is a tabby. A daffy young lady was based on a pretty cat the artist once knew.
Brilliant.
And, OM MY GOD, is the art fabulous. Looking at it fills me with happiness and pain. The pain is from my arm and hand going, "Ooog! All that WORK!"
So you will go look. Rumrunning cats. It's about time we got them--it's been ten years since Cats Don't Dance.
Enjoy. Drop the nice lady a note.
