Commissions Update

Yeah boy, the summer has flown by as has the time elapsed since some commissions were ordered. I expect to have every single one extant out the studio door in the next three weeks. I know some of you have been waiting since early this year (and since before last San Diego, hello Dave!), and you are not forgotten, and you will be the first to get yours. Folks who ordered from May to June can expect them by late August.

Thanks so much for your business and your patience. It is really a pleasure doing these drawings.

MIDDLE NAMES: ALL PLAY

I'm aware that subjects tackled here will leave out one set of regulars or another, so it's time for an ALL PLAY DAY here at Dangerous Beauty pied a terre.

The subject for today:
What's your middle name?
Do you use it?
Do you love or hate it?
And where did it come from? (For example, Carla Speed McNeil, whose middle name is her former last name. She kept it because it is a family name.)

My own is the very useful with other names "Ann," which went with "Lea" (pronounced "Lee") until I got to middle school and reinvented myself as "Lea" (pronounced "Lee-ah.") At the big public school, computer registration (in 1975!), reduced students to first name, middle initial, last name.
On my first day ever of public school life, when a teacher "mispronounced" my first name, I answered to it gladly.
I was really sick of "Lea Ann" by that point, having heard my middle name as something like a swear or a sigh for six years.

HURT COMICS: Pam Noles on the CCI Black Panel

Pam breaks the whole Black Panel Fracas down really well, and it's worth reading. I'm so glad she pointed out that with the mike-to-panelist ratio, SOMEONE could've stepped up and called out the bad behavior. But instead, they just sat there. Silence is assent, my friends.
If, IF I were to go to San Diego next year, seeing Pam would be one of the FEW reasons to bother.

"For quite a few people the primary leave-behind of The Black Panel was not the news that Blokhedz landed a deal at Simon & Schuster, nor the news that Urban Ministries, Inc. launched the Guardian Line, a collective of comics aimed at the Christian market, and hired a black woman to write one (or more?) of its books.

What clouds that panel is the ignominious treatment of a female audience member by certain of the panelists. For me, the secondary stunner was the message delivered by the level of gender-based creator cluelessness on display by another panelist’s wearying myopia. And the continued attacks against her and anyone else who has expressed doubts? Not helped the cause much."

Stung by a bee. I had been out most of the afternoon vacuuming, treating, and skimming the damn pool. But I get stung while I am just standing there marvelling at how much better the skimmer works with a weight to hold down the floater a bit.
