It has been so long since I had this much fun, I don't remember the last time I did. I don't remember the last time I resented the need to sleep! I am about to go pull the head from the oven, where it's been cooling, build the rest of the armature, and get some sleeeeep.

I finished the head of a surprise maquette, inspired by art someone on my flist posted in the past week. Can anyone guess what?

I will post pics Sunday. I sure hope it is liked.

Also starting on a polymer portrait of ******* *** ***** for **** *******!

At Xmas, we were at my mom's. Xmas, however other things go, is a hoot, food-wise. There's always something good, and for every good thing, there's three fucked-up things. Things like 5-pound dip, which is Velveeta, beer, sausage. Like pies make from saltines. Shit you find in a recipe book sold at Cracker Barrel, or in The Gallery of Regrettable Food at Lileks.com, out of one of those mid-century "recipe" books that look and read like they were written by women-haters high on fumes.

Behold:

Mice.
Each mouse is a Hershey's kiss, a chocolate-covered cherry, two almond slivers, and two dots of red icing. The cheese is, in a twist, only cheese.
Girl and I arranged them as seen, so that one mouse is the leader, fomenting rebellion. My mom got really annoyed with us for touching...touching the finger food with our fingers. But this was the Xmas of showing off how Boy can belch the alphabet, and singing "Gramma got run over by a headache", so I'd already been in trouble, and more didn't matter much.

The mice were delicious.

Now, let's hear about more of your Food to Eat in the Dark.

I'm calling it "daughter of", cause that's how I roll.

CAPE! is on Free Comic Book Day (Saturday, May 6, 2006), at Zeus Comics, Dallas, Texas.

The site with guest list is here:

Yes, I know that's not my art with my name, that's getting fixed. There's also more girls coming, and they'll be announced soon! Gay and Lesbian (and bi) mixer Friday night before! Live art event Saturday night!

If you're in the metroplex, you NEED to come see me (and all the fine guests), and treat yourself to the best comic shop in North Texas. I'll have books, some damn kind of new mini, be taking commissions, and showing off maquettes!
My booth bunny will be Paul Riddell (I will have a maquette he commissioned on display), this means the same thing as last year: he's helping me sell books and still ready to set his dick on fire before going back to A-Kon.

This is the ONLY comics convention I'll be attending this year, because it rocks so hard, so plan accordingly!

You know what MY family wears for party hats? pot holders, an oven mitt (that was mine, because I was GoH), and socks.

We had a barbeque that was just supposed to be hot dogs, but King went all out and thawed steaks. We sat on the patio, which was exactly right, admired the purple sky, and ate hot dogs. After, we tore into the steak and watched Goblet of Fire.

My birthday loot was Manga Studio Debut (for digital inking), bought on the rec' of Susie Lee of Studio Cutie, a book of facial expressions from Amazon.com (thanks, whoever bought it!), and King taking Boy out for a radically short haircut. Boy's hair was my toy all day; it is so wiry I can make it stand straight up without gel.

Lisa J. gifted me with Trader Joe's care packages throughout the last year. Mmmm, volcano cakes!

My mom sent me money, but NOT FOR MY BIRTHDAY, as she does not DO birthdays. It was "for your new business", which was an incredible vote of confidence for my sculpting business. She's really glad I quit the comics business. (Except for making comics as I damn well please.)

Thanks, everyone, for hanging out and reading and commenting and supporting my work. You are a gift every day.
