As in no leadership in New Orleans. What a fucking mess. What's happening there is criminal, and I don't mean people stealing food because they were shuffled to the Superdome and left. I mean one-third of Louisiana's National Guard in Iraq. I mean no apparent plan just in case a leveee or two broke. I mean police patrolling for looters instead of rescuing people.
I see what's happening in NO as proof of a lousy infrastructure, corruption, poor planning, and some serious disenfranchisement.

It's disgusting and infuriating.

Being mindful of the Red Cross making the assinine decision (which they rescinded) to use the money donated for 911 relief whatever way they damn well pleased, someone tell me: what charity is actually going to get into N.O., Louisiana, M'Sippi, Kentucky, and really help people? Who's going to actually be able to do something with my soda money?

We're getting refugees here, too, which means there may be volunteer opportunities.

25,000 refugees are being sent here to San Antonio, which means volunteer opportunities.
I'm asking people I know who are hooked up to this kind of thing what they are. I'm expecting things like helping hand out water and donations of things like personal hygiene items (wet wipes, toothbrushes, diapers).

Anyone in the area of San Ant and Austin willing to troop in and help out once I find out where to go?

And boy, will I be PISSED if refugees are turned away from the Alamodome because the Saints have been moved to there.

""I don't make judgments about why people chose not to leave but, you know, there was a mandatory evacuation of New Orleans," he said.
"And to find people still there is just heart-wrenching to me because, you know, the mayor did everything he could to get them out of there."

Um, er, those people had no way to get out, ie., no vehicles, no money. They were told to shelter in the Superdome.

Yeah, gramma, you slacker.
Yes, I realize he's mainly talking about people who chose not to leave their homes, but what an asshole.
He also thinks FEMA's doing a good job, and says, functionally, they didn't know there were problems. Um, sir, we have the same CNN you do.

FEMA's directing donations to Pat Robertson's charity, Operation Blessing.
This would be the same Pat Robertson who said that the president of Venezuela needed to be assassinated.

"If you ever have 20,000 people come to supper,
you know what I'm talking about."
