BOY: More Writing!
Feb. 4th, 2008 01:07 amToday, I gave Boy some Copics with which to color the instruction booklet that came with yet another Buzz Lightyear toy. While he didn't make conventional color choices, he did add details missing in the drawings, like Buzz' wing stripes.
I also left him with a stack of cardstock to keep him from (hopefully) decorating the wall.
About an hour later, unsupervised, unprodded, and entirely self-directed, he copied words from his favorite pieces of paper and DVD cases::

When he ran out of room, he filled in empty spaces. I love the way he switched colors for each letter, and for the extra strokes in E, A, and I.
This is very exciting because it means Boy is at a stage in writing called Graphic Presentation, which is seen in typical kids at about age 6-7. We have seen this interest in writing blossom in just over the last five weeks or so, as we've worked with him on learning to spell words and write them down.
I am so excited!
