ALL PLAY: Five Little Things
May. 12th, 2007 11:05 pmI hope everyone is busy licking envelopes with folding money and checks for the Artis family. In the meantime, let's be grateful for what we have happy about.
Once again, it's time for
burge's Five Things Meme!
The rules, as I recall them (Cath, step in and clarify any time), and five things that make you happy. NOT the usual, like a sunset, or puppies. Dig a little. The first sunset of the winter equinox, and why, for example. WHY a rainy day makes you happy.
I'll kick off. GO!
1. The first biting, fizzy swig of a cold bottle of S. Pellgrino water.
It reminds me of the first time I drank it, in a bar in San Diego. Someone with a criminal record was buying, and I didn't want to get drunk, but I was thirsty. It tasted so good. I watched Wolf's Rain (which everyone else was ignoring), on the plasma set, with the loud waves of two hundred people talking receding behind me.
2. My family all in the kitchen, washing up after bagging slimy garbage in the backyard. We were in a queue, our arms soaped to our short sleeve hems, and fighting good-naturedly for the water.
3. Finding things I didn't remember I had, mainly tools and art supplies.
4. Finding something I've been looking for, and really want to have in hand. It's that delightful sense of relief.
5. The sound of a sewing machine. It reminds me of my mother sewing me exquisite Barbie clothes, easter dresses with matching hats, and two piece play suits. It reminds me of making clothes for my own daughter, when I wanted her dressed beautifully and couldn't afford it, but COULD afford yardage and time. It reminds me of the satisfaction of making something.
Your turn!
Once again, it's time for
