Jane and Boots made it through the fire, since they'd gone out for the night.

Girl and I went to Target and procured a Cat Capture Kit: flashlights, a carrier, food, litter box and litter. We returned to the house, after having made a sighting of Jane earlier in the day. (She was too spooked to be caught then.) im to the bag
Jane and Boots greeted us in the backyard. Girl grabbed Boots and squrshed him in the carrier, and he managed to get out after it was zipped. (It seemed like, anyway.) We got Jane and put her in butt first and Girl held on while I zipped. We herded Boots with flashlights and added him to the bag. There is nothing more silly than two grown cats in a carrier going, "GNRRRRRL. GNNNNRRRRL. NURRRRRL."
They were oh so quiet as we walked through the lobby, looking all for the world like a loaded duffel.
They have been walking throught everything in the room and asking for and getting loads of loving.

Mini Jane has not turned up. We are all ready for her body to turn up in cleaning.

We had a really nice lady from animal control come out for Yuki, Mama, Sprocket, Mocha, Frap, MiMii, Vanilla and Nori. She's from Australia (and yes, mourning Steve Irwin), and just listened and talked with us and reassured Girl that the animals went fast and didn't suffer.

It was heartrending to see two big ol' firefighters trying to resuscitate MiMii with heart massage and a tiny oxygen mask. The rumbling of the fire engines in the pavement made it seem like the cats might still be purring. Frap came out after, and died before she got to my arms. I carried her, and big ol' firefighter carried MiMii to the front of the truck to put them in a tarp, and Sprocket and Mocha were already there, which was a nasty shock since I didn't see them carried out. Yuki was next, stiff, and I couldn't look at Mama after that.

We didn't see the ratties come out.

We are in a hotel, and Girl and I procured laptops to surf. She crapped out, but I am answering emails and writing this. I am sure this will be a recurring theme, but we are overwhelmed by the generosity of people all over the world. If nothing else good comes of this, my daughter will have a sense of how caring people can be.

And now, a shower. I smell wretched, and have to put on smelly clothes again in the morning to go buy ones that don't stink.

I am trying to get at least one kid to school and another in clean, new clothes. Then to the house to meet insurance people. I will post pictures later, because my house now looks like the Haunted Fucking Mansion.
