ANIME IOWA: Home Again!
Aug. 7th, 2006 01:24 amAnime Iowa was, as usual, FUCKING AWESOME. I want to thank all the staff and the people who came to see me at my table and at panels. I had a GREAT weekend!
And a shout-out to the peeps yo at Studio Antithesis (http://www.studioantithesis.com/), Stacie, Maciek, Kim. We have a shitload of funny pictures from dinner and the Chophouse Friday night, where we waited so long for food we resorted to cannibalism.
On the way out, the combo of little sleep, too much coffee, bad TGI Friday's food and a bumpy airplane ride sent me to the airplane's only bathroom for a nice retch. The pilot of theplane called the airport, the airport called the convention! I got on the ground feeling a bit better, and walked past the person sent for me (Chelsea) and somehow also dodged Dan Wojcik and a con volunteer who is also an RN, and got on the hotel shuttle with Stacie.
Opening ceremonies were hugely fun, then there was dinner and sleep. Getting up Saturday morning was not so bad. Getting up Sunday morning was so hard it was unbelieveable. It might have been the four drinks. It might have been the four drinks and five hours of sleep that followed.
I only got a couple commissions, obviously my higher price priced me right outta the market. But I sold out of the books I brought, all but a couple Near Life Experience 2006 minis, and sold all my LuckY Neko buttons. One of the Lucky Neko owners won TWO awards at the cosplay! They really work!!
On Saturday, the guests were greeted with the nicest goodie bags outside their doors. They had water and Japanese snack foods. It made me feel so special! One of the things were these banana snacks, which looked like pale yellow packing peanuts bu are as addictive as crack.
A girl who came to my Friday panel gave me a pink bear she won in a crane machine. I pretended it was a fabulously expensive ball-jointed doll dressed as a bear.
My panels went awesome, and were well-attended on Saturday. I had so much fun talking to the kiddos about drawing hands and hair, and totally liked one girl's mom. Like every other Anime Iowa, I met lots of new people that I really liked!
I got to see Joan Vinge again, and we talked lots. Saturday, I had to wash myself right away to get the cigarette smoke out of my hair and skin. I was in jammies (borrowed from Stacie) in bed when Stacie and Joan and Ellie Vyvle and (fill in names here, I suck at names) came in with pizza and clowning. Joan sat in bed with me and we talked and talked about writing and hot men and other girl stuff.
Lastly, I have to say Anime Iowa could make anyone a fan of breasts. There was lots of breastage on display.
